There were many paths around the castle grounds, which were very large. We only went on a few - they went into the forest, around lakes in the woods, and lots of places. But now, as we leave the castle, we decide to go to the cable-car with Bern and his wife. The base station of the cable car is not far from the castle. The signs inside are in Russian, but they have pictures, maps, and signs (I can read Russian a lot better than I can speak it!), and it looks like they say it is well over 3,000 meters to the top - that about two miles up. It certainly looks that high. There are three stations for the cable car. The base station, at the bottom, a midway station in the middle, and the peak station at the top. It is too high a span to go it all in one stretch. Here we are at the base station,
waiting for the cable car to come down. We get in the car, which
has about the same amount of room as a Volkswagen bus. It's a pretty
normal cable car. Is it scary? Well, yes it is :-) It's fun too!!! Here's a view out the side
window. The vineyard is really big. There were lots of vineyards all
over Crimea. After a while, we get near
the midway station. Look in-between the cables, you can see the top
cable station as a tiny little speck in the exact center of the photo.
It's way, way up there!!! |
