Steve Travels to Kherson and Yalta in Ukraine
to Meet Marina Chedakina for the First Time

After Lenin Park (no, we did not see it all - still just a little bit of it) we went to another place where they have an animal exhibition - Kherson does not have a zoo, but they do have this traveling exhibition - it goes to many cities, and right now it is in Kherson. They have some cool animals - some of which I have never seen before, some I have only seen on TV, and some I already have seen.

Here's a Chameleon - a big one, I think. He (she???? how do you tell? I don't know!) has claws and he pinches them into my shirt and skin, it kind of feels like cat's claws.

This is some kind of African frog. You can't tell his size from the photo, but he is HUGE HUGE HUGE!!!!! He is as large as a dinner plate! If you laid a one-foot ruler on him, it would just about go from one side to the other! Really, you have got to see this frog for real, to understand. Just imagine the warts you would get if you kissed this baby :-)

Here's some really strange snakes - I don't know what they are, some kind of constrictor, I think. But I haven't ever seen or heard of any yellow and white snakes like this.

I told Marina to ask the snake-man if these snakes were good to eat, and how is the best way to cook them. She talked to the snake-man, but I don't think she translated what I said :-)

I paid 2 grivneys (40 cents) to have the snake-man let Marina hold the snake.

She really likes it, don't you think?

This evening, we have dinner at a small restaurant. They have a musician, and I ask him to sing "The Girl From Epanina" (you know, "Tall and tan, and Oh, so lovely) Marina had some kind of very spicy beef soup - it was so good, I wish I had ordered it. I ate lots of her soup - she was nice and let me have all i wanted :-) I had Shaslik, which we would call Shisk-ka-bob. It was delicous too. The food here was so good, everything was delicious. I ate and ate and ate, and everything was great! Most everything was different from what we have in the USA (the same food, but they just cook it different), but it was so good!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, this was a very fun day. Tomorrow we go to Yalta - and Yalta is pretty good -- in fact, it's really good! In fact, it's even better than that! You will see :-)
