Steve and Marina Capps - Wedding & Honeymoon
Las Vegas - Sept. 11 to Sept. 16 2002
Day 1 -- Day 2 -- Day 3 -- Day 4 -- Day 5

The limousine picks us up again and we head for the Little White Chapel, and we are both excited and happy. We put our gown and tux on, Marina is beautiful and she tells me I am handsome :-)

We go into the Chapel, and the Minister greets us and says, "Folks, we are going to have a Las Vegas style wedding - kind of informal and fun, like things are here in Las Vegas" and then he begins the ceremony. He makes us do things kind of odd - we have to put these flower wreaths on each others heads, and we both light "Singularity" candles, and then we must hold them up to each others face and blow out the candles. "This is to signify the end of your single lives" he says. Marina blows very hard and blows melted candle wax all over my face and in my eyebrows! We all laugh and the minister says, "Oh, that's good!".

Then, we have to roll these big fuzzy dice like you would hang from your rear-view mirror, to see how long our love will last. "Don't roll boxcars or snake-eyes" the minister says! We roll a six, so we don't lose, he tells us. Then, we have to pull a slot machine to see how lucky our love will be. We get three cherries, and the minister says "That's the best you can get!!!"

Meantime, the minister is asking us the silly questions about movies, and saying things like "Now don't fight like they did in the movie Kramer vs. Kramer," and he asks us who starred in the movie. Marina doesn't know, and I don't either, and soon he is asking us about some other movie. Things just keep getting weirder and weirder, but Marina is happy and laughing, so it's all OK with me, but I am thinking, "Hmm, this isn't really what I expected for a wedding ceremony."

Finally, they throw poker chips at us, instead of rice -- he says, "This is Las Vegas, isn't it?" or something like that.

And at the last, he says "Now you two are not really married -- you are totally oblivious." Then he tells us that we are on a nation-wide TV show, and that there are hidden cameras all around, and I am wondering "What's really the joke here? Is the joke the silly wedding or maybe the joke is that he is saying we are on Candid Camera?" But then a bunch of cameramen and crewmen come out, and it's obvious we really were on TV, and it was all a big joke. They say "You guys were great, we loved you. We will pay for your wedding, too!".

So it turns out the show is called "Oblivious" and it's on TNN. That's channel 54 on Comcast, and the show comes on Sunday at 9 p.m., and also Saturday at midnight. We have been watching and taping the show, hoping to see our episode. They said that in October they would be showing many things from Las Vegas, so hopefully we will be on soon.

After all this, we go back to the real wedding chapel and have a very beautiful wedding, as nice as any I have ever seen. Here are some more wedding photos.
